This week, we not only explored a burgeoning literary genre—the gothic—but we also got to learn about some of the ways that the notion of the gothic has manifested in real life. Although it’s a new literary medium, the podcast is, in many ways, reminiscent of the oldest literary genre, one that predates the written word: the oral narrative. Historically, in most cultures, oral narrative was not only a means of storytelling for the purpose of entertainment, but it was also a means of preserving knowledge and ensuring that cultural traditions would be passed down through the generations.Offer thoughtful feedback on at 2 of your classmates’ posts.

Try to employ some of the gothic literary terms that you’ve learned over the course of the term in your response. Finally, did hearing these stories (as opposed to reading them or viewing them) play a role in your reaction to these stories? Why or why not?
