Marginalizing and discrimination against immigrants brings feelings of insignificance, if they find a group of people that make them feel important, accepted, and understood they are going to be more likely to join that group (become radicalized) (American Psychological Association, 2017). Groups out trying to radicalize individuals know what their people feel and need, they prey upon the issues faced by their race and/or religion and exploit those people with the promise of belonging. Studies have been done to assess what the most manipulative stage is for immigrants to enter into a country and be targeted for radicalization and it is assessed that those under the age of 16 are much more likely to want to harm the people of the country to immigrate to vs. full grown adults that immigrate to a new country (Carafano & Gonzalez, 2017).

Assimilation has also been spoken about a lot, while many thing that integration and understanding the immigrants place in society will help them not become radicalized but after reading this article, assimilation is more of what needs to happen. That deep patriotic feeling for whatever country the immigrants migrate to is critical in order to not become radicalized, as said by Carafano and Gonzalez (2017), “People die for God and country, not for an economic system. The key is identity.”
