Ms. Grunfeld teaches an eclectic art class. Her style is to target her course to the abilities of children of various ages, and she invites interested parents to enroll their children in her course. A psychology student wanted to study her class. The student first wanted to understand the ages of those in the class. Ms. Grunfeld is 42 years old. The student interviewed parents about their children’s ages. She listed the ages of the students, which can be seen here.

First, organize the ages of class member is descending order. Then calculate the mean, mode and median of those in the class. Excel will have formulas, search for “how to calculate a mean with Excel”.

They are all measures of ‘central tendency’ and any can be the best measure for a particular measure.

Why do you think that it is important to examine these three statistics together?
