Because it is an essay, there should still be some adherence to the formatting of an essay (introduction, and conclusion included), but beyond that, remember that a narrative essay is a story, an anecdote written with a purpose. The purpose here is to reflect on how language has played a role in your life.

Audience: Your audience for this essay is a young person or loved one. This young person or loved one could be your own child, a sibling, or other family member, or a significant other. But it could also be yourself, in the past. Or you could write to a future child. This isn’t a letter per se, but instead the passing on of a story in written form.

• 1100-1200 words typed, double spaced

• 12-point font, Times New Roman
