discussion questions after watching a video
You will then have an opportunity to ask some scientific questions of
your own. Using the news story you chose in learning block 1-2 and the
natural science topic and supporting evidence you identified, complete
the following:
- Develop two questions that might be of interest to a natural scientist based on the information presented in the news story. As you develop these questions, consider the information presented in the video you viewed about scientific questions. For example, if you were to build off the article on volcano eruption that you reviewed in learning block 1-1, your questions might revolve around predicting volcano eruption or the causes of volcanic eruptions.
- In the discussion forum, post your news story title and a link to it, a 1- to 2-sentence summary of your news story (feel free to use the same summary you completed in the learning block 1-2 short answer activity), and your two questions. You can present your information as a mini-presentation, an infographic, a standard discussion post, or any other way you wish. Be creative, if you like!
When responding to your peers, consider whether you see a clear connection between the questions they ask and the natural sciences. Based on this review, do you think you could further clarify your own post? Remember that when you respond to your peers in the discussion forum, your tone and language should be very respectful. Your feedback should be constructive, meaning that it focuses on positive aspects and how the presented ideas might be strengthened.
