This assignment consists of four parts. The required criteria for this assignment includes:

  1. Section 1- Literature Search Assignment- Search Strategy Demonstrate a literature search strategy for evidence-based nutrition/diet literature using one of the following: My Plate, DASH Diet, Mediterranean Diet, MIND Diet or another published eating pattern. Choose one of the following chronic disease conditions: obesity, type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis), hypertension or Irritable Bowel Disease or any other chronic condition covered in Greger Chapters 1-15. If needed, combine with a nutrient, life-style behavior, food related term, etc. to narrow the search. If you have another chronic disease (arthritis, etc.) you would like to research, please contact the instructor. Document and submit each of the following points under the heading “Section 1- Literature Search Assignment Search Strategy”.
    1. Search engine(s) used for the search
    2. Overall topic of your search (example: Mediterranean Diet, type 2 diabetes)
    3. Search terms used in your original search
    4. Search terms used to narrow your search if needed (example: behavior change)
    5. Number of publication matches to your original and/or narrowed searches
  2. Section 2- Literature Search Assignment- Journals- Look over your referenced journal articles and identify commonly listed journals containing evidence-based nutrition and chronic disease literature. Under the Title “Section 2- Literature Search Assignment- Journals” list the the names of 8-10 journals. (example: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)
  3. Section 3- Literature Search Assignment- Article Review
    1. Select 3 published articles from your search that are related, yet different.
    2. Write approximately one-page (double-spaced) summary of each article/research study. Focus on the actual nutrition/diet aspects of the study/publication and study results. All selected articles must have a diet/nutrition focus. The article can be research based or a review of the literature type article. It’s most interesting to chose different types of articles, i.e. meta-analysis, three-arm randomized trial, case-cohort study, etc.
    3. Be sure to reference the original manuscript. Please do not simply re-write the abstract.
  4. Section 4- Literature Search Assignment- Summary Paragraph
    1. Summarize what you learned about nutrition and the chronic disease. How would you apply the information from the studies to recommendations or approaches used when health coaching or working with a client/patient. What have you learned/realized from this assignment and how would you apply that learning to your professional practice.
  5. Section 5- Literature Search Assignment- Reference/Works Cited Page
    1. Reference/Works Cited page should include the three (3) references used.
    2. Reference/Works Cited page should be completed using AMA format.
