preliminary assignment 2 ethnographic fieldnotes
This is more like a note writing. Just write more information is ok, I would like you do this research on the restaurant “Jollibee” that located at 15 William Kitchen Rd, Scarborough, ON M1P 5B7, or if you have any better choice please let me know, but must around Toronto. This is a draft fieldnotes writing, which is first draft assignment. I may asked you to do the next analysis and final paper, and still base on this restaurant. but let us finish this one first.
Here is the requirement :
This assignment is intended to review and provide feedback on the field notes that you will take for your restaurant ethnography paper. Go to your restaurant and have a meal. Take a notebook (or cellphone) to write down observations about all aspects of the restaurant, including the menu, interactions with staff, the behavior of other patrons, décor, prices, the food you tasted, and the food. Think about how the presentation of the restaurant staff. What atmosphere do they seek to convey (authenticity, playfulness, familiarity, exoticism)? What strategies do they use? Be self-reflective in your observations. How does the food taste to you? Do you feel comfortable or out of place? Record as much detail as you can.
When you get home from the restaurant, take at least fifteen minutes to read back over your notes, and write them up on your computer at least two pages of reflections for each visit. (Include the date and times of your visits.) Use your notes as memory triggers to reconstruct more detailed descriptions of ethnographic observations. Did you notice interactions that take place around food across different social groups? Think about questions for future research, because you will be going back.
