Your boss has just read the Hacker PowerTest proposal and would like you to present your feedback on this testing approach.

Read the Hacker proposal carefully.

Create a PowerPoint deck, no more than 10 slides, stating your point of view and concerns with Phase I of this proposal and how it impacts phase II

Be specific. Your commentary must provide a clear point of view on the potential merits and flaws with this technique utilizing your recently acquired knowledge in test design.

Propose an alternative approach that your boss can take to his superiors and contrast this approach to the Hacker Power test.

Likely outline for your presentation must include and be limited to 10 slides total:

  • Cover slide
  • Agenda
  • Intro / Issue Stated
  • Hacker’s perspective
  • Concerns
  • Alternative Approach
  • Summary

  • Specific requirements are as follows:

You are to put together a power point document stating your point of view for the usage of the method that the Hacker Group outlines. Remember you may get an assignment like this when you get a job. You need to think of this strategy from many angles and give a thoughtful reply. It is likely your response will not just go to your boss, but his boss as well, and many others in the organization.

When you are asked to provide a point of view for your organization it is actually kind of an honor that you are being asked. You want to approach the task as though it is important and could help you get a promotion in the future. At a minimum it will allow others to see how you think and approach decision making. You want to let others see your thought process.

Here are some things to think about regarding Hacker. First, why would it ever be ok to run a test without statistical validity? In his document he says there is a lack of sample size, but he is doing two phases. One with a fully formed test matrix. He says he can only use 1500 per cell in that matrix. 1500 is not statistically valid.

So the question is, why is he advocating something that lacks statistical validity? Why not just construct another approach that is statistically valid? How hard is that? When we get into the testing section we will learn about other test designs that can answer this question. In the mean time, think about why an agency like Hacker would advocate a non statistical approach. Go to their website and see how they present their services. Would you think that this agency is an expert in quantitative methods?
