skills assignment identify stages of the writing process
Thoroughly read Samuel H. Scudder’s essay “Look at Your Fish!” As you read, highlight, or otherwise note, where the author may allude to stages of the writing process, planning, drafting, revising, and proofreading and/or editing. These noted parts will become quotes that students will incorporate in a paragraph of the essay. Use the MLA help link to assist with intext citations.
Students will then compose a paragraph that includes examples of the writing process alluded to in Scudder’s piece.
The paragraph should begin by identifying the essay and author: In “title of essay,” the author “name of author” alludes to examples of the writing process.
Following, students should define–in their own words–the stages of the writing process. After each description, use a quote from Scudder that you believe is an example of that stage. So the paragraph should be organized like this:
Topic sentence

When incorporating quotes, remember to use either Scudder’s full name or last name. When we refer to authors in our writing, we never use their first name only.
***Do not label the sentences.
This Only has to be a paragraph.
