respond to peer discussion post regarding professional devleopment

This is a peer respond discussion post. You must read your peer response to the assignment that is assigned. I will provide the assignment details and after give the peers response. Review your peers’ responses. Respond as if you were a coworker. Would you like this opportunity? Do you think it would be meaningful? Do you have any concerns? What would you like to change about this professional development opportunity? Note There also is a Powerpoint presentation you must open and respond.

Assignment Instructions for peer below:

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Early Childhood Education Professional Development: Training and Technical Glossary (Links to an external site.) to understand the importance of Professional Development within this profession.

Your lead teacher is overseeing professional development this year and has asked you to take over this task. She has started by gathering a few options that would be beneficial for the team. Review the options she has chosen and choose one you think will be of interest to your team.

Available Options:

You truly need to reflect on your choice before sharing this with your new colleagues. Review your options and respond to the following questions by completing a short PowerPoint (three slides) “selling” your choice.

In your PowerPoint (Links to an external site.), address the following questions:

  • Why do you think this option is best for your team?
  • What do you hope they will learn from this professional development?

In your discussion, answer the following questions:

  • How much does this professional development opportunity cost?
  • If someone asked you why you chose this option, what would you tell them?
  • If someone complains about your choice, how will you respond?

Peer Response Below;

Krista H

I chose the webinar- Using Mindfulness with Children of All Abilities in the “Messy Middle” of ECE Classrooms

  • How much does this professional development opportunity cost?

The webinar itself is free to register and join. However if you are trying to get Continuing Education Units you can each individually register and pay $15 .

  • If someone asked you why you chose this option, what would you tell them?

This is a great option because not only is it free, if you are unable to attend when it is live they send you a link to the recording so you can watch it at a later time. You will still receive your certificate of attendance once you complete the webinar. Another reason is that including mindfulness into your classroom and your life has many benefits such as learning strategies to support brain development and reduce stressors.

  • If someone complains about your choice, how will you respond?

If there was someone who did not like the choice of webinars that I chose, I would ask them to sit through it anyway as it is a training about mindfulness and maybe they would still get something out of it. I would also ask them if they would like to take the wheel and plan the next one as setting up something such as a day of professional development takes a lot of time and thought to do so.
