This is a Discussion post from a student. I have to give a response base on this post. also I need references. This is the course text book! Jacobsen, K. H. (2019). Introduction of global health (3rded.) Burlington, MA: Jones & Bartlett Learning .
For decades, healthcare providers and scientists have been on the quest of trying to find a cure to one of the most prevalent infections in the world: HIV/AIDS (Jacobsen, 2019). Due to the high prevalence of the disease worldwide, governments and organizations have donated their time, money and knowledge to treat and prevent individuals from getting infected (Jacobsen, 2019). Billions of condoms have been distributed amongst those who are at high risk, in an effort to reduce the rate and spread of the disease (Jacobsen, 2019). Currently, southern and eastern Africa has the highest number of individuals affected with HIV worldwide, with an alarming estimate of 19 million cases (Anne, 2017). Non-governmental organizations such as: The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has worked endlessly to help combat this worldwide epidemic among people of different reproductive age groups, sex, culture, economic and social status (Anne, 2017). By the year 2016, an estimated number of 36.7 million of people worldwide were living with HIV and about 1.8 million of individuals were newly infected with the virus (Anne, 2017). These statistics prove that this is a serious global health issue that needs to be recognized and fought through the use of research, education, treatments and clinical trials (Anne, 2017). UNAIDS has announced that their goal is to end HIV by 2030, and their means of making this a success is by providing HIV assessment tests to individuals who reside in high risk communities, provide HIV positive patients with antiretroviral therapy to treat the infection, and educate the population on the importance of adherence to treatment (Anne, 2017).
