Micronutrient Research for Optimum Health

After this activity you will be able to recognize that the causes of noninfectious modern maladies are almost entirely inappropriate life behaviors. You will be able to describe strategies to eliminate noninfectious conditions that are more than three-quarters that causes death in the United States. The noninfectious conditions, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, cirrhosis of the liver, and etc. are caused by lifestyle problems, such as addictions to smoking or alcohol, poor diet, lack of exercise. The conquest of these chronic problems requires change in attitudes and behaviors toward health.

American’s are the most overweight people in the world. Despite the availability for too much food, most Americans have a diet that is deficient in the three vitamins that are often destroyed by the heat of cooking: vitamin B6, vitamin C, and vitamin E. Because most Americans eat much meat and consume excessive sodium (from common table salt), there is a common deficiency of the mineral calcium scientific details about vitamins and minerals are available from the Linus Pauling Institute.

For example vitamin B6 is very important in preventing heart disease, especially by controlling homocysteine. Vitamin C and vitamin E help to prevent both heart disease and cancer. Adequate level of calcium is needed for healthy bones and teeth, and also for healthy blood pressure and weight control, and perhaps for preventing some cancers.
